Chocolate Avocado Smoothie

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love avocados. You could buy me a handful of avocados for my birthday and I would be thrilled. I know, that’s so embarrassing, but it’s true. There’s just something about the taste—or maybe it’s the texture—that I can’t seem to get enough of.

I can’t remember the first time I tried an avocado, but I know it was within the past year. For the longest time, I would just order food at restaurants that came with avocado. If I was at a restaurant and had to choose between a chicken sandwich without avocado or a chicken sandwich with avocado I would, without question, choose the one with avocado. The avocado added a certain yum-ness (totally a word) to the sandwich that I enjoyed so much. Then one day the light bulb went off in my head and I realized that I could buy avocados at the grocery store and use them how I please. Crazy, I know. So that’s what I did and I’ve been eating avocado toast for breakfast for the past several months (if you haven’t tried it–do it!)

When I first heard of the idea of putting avocado in a smoothie, my first thought was KDJ;FAKDJF;LKAJFA THAT’S GENIUS. Why wasn’t I the one to think of that? Wait, did you think I came up with this/that idea? I didn’t, but I do embrace it with open arms and I did come up with this recipe on my own. Why add avocado to a smoothie? It’ll make your smoothie thicker, creamier AND add some healthy fats to a typically “bad fat” kind of smoothie.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then let me inform you. There are two types of fat: 1) bad fat and 2) good fat. As you can tell by the name, the bad fat is bad for you, while the good fat is good for you and can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Now doesn’t that sound great?!! Well, I think so anyway, though, I’m really just in it for the creamy texture.

Why drink a smoothie with the consistency of milk when you can drink one with the consistency similar to ice cream? Though, ice cream is my #1 favorite food so I may be a bit biased. This smoothie tastes like a chocolate shake but it has healthy ingredients in it. The one tip I want to add is that you can either use chocolate milk OR regular milk plus a little chocolate syrup–whichever you prefer and/or whatever you have on hand totally works.

So the next time you glance at your avocados just sitting on your kitchen table, don’t hesitate to use half for your toast/eggs and the other half for this delicious smoothie . It’s only a suggestion but one I think you’re going to want to take.
