This Easy Grape Sorbet comes together in just minutes and tastes like any other decadent, refreshing sorbet or Italian shaved ice. And the best part? You just need three ingredients!
Although I’ve studied nutrition for years and have a degree in it and all… I have an enormous sweet tooth. Try as I might, if there is cake in front of me, I’ll eat it.
Nutella in the house, I’ll find it. So I have to find ways to satisfy that sweet tooth while staying true to my profession in which there’s little tolerance for sugar.
And that’s where fruit comes in, nature’s little nutrient sugar bombs. I’ve found that if I substitute a piece of fruit when I’m really craving a sweet snack, the cravings go away! So needless to say, my world flipped when I discovered frozen grapes.
Have you ever snacked on frozen grapes? They. Are. Amazing. Let them freeze solid, pull them out of the freezer, and let them warm up just enough that they get a thin layer of frost on their skin. I pop these things like they’re M&Ms on hot summer days!
A while back I discovered the beauty that is the Watermelon Granita, essentially just pureed and frozen watermelon, scraped into a shaved ice of sorts, and that got me wondering what other fruits might be awaiting some frozen summer inspiration.
I was talking it over with the boyfriend-tulip-man, throwing out complicated ideas like “maybe I could puree the grapes, strain the skins, freeze it, then scrape it like a granita?”
Being a guy strongly rooted in minimalism, he said “why don’t you just freeze them then puree them”…DUH! So simple! I gave it a go and instantly we had a success.
I suppose you could stop there, puree some frozen grapes and call it a day. But I wanted this to be a real, honest to earth delicious treat.
Not just a substitute that in the back of your mind you know isn’t satisfying those cravings. No, I wanted it to be so good you could swap it for sorbet or shaved ice and wouldn’t miss a thing.
So with an insy bit of sugar and some lemon, we transform frozen grape mush into a refreshing, lemony frozen dessert!
When I was a kid we lived in North Carolina for a few years. And if you know anything about a North Carolina summer you’ll know it can be HOT.
My mom always used to keep a freezer stocked with Luigi’s Lemon Italian Ice. It came in a little yogurt like container and you’d eat it with a wooden shovel of sorts. You know the kind I’m talking about? Well this Easy Grape Sorbet tastes JUST like that!

The juice of the lemon imparts a bit of tartness to the sorbet, while the zest gives that real lemony flavor without as much of the sour. If your grapes are sweet, you may not need any sugar, and if they’re sour you may need to kick it up a notch.
The sugar can, of course, be substitute for any sweetener of your choice, like honey or agave.
- 3 cups frozen green grapes
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp lemon zest
- ¼ tsp lemon juice
- In a food processor, puree frozen grapes, scraping down the sides as needed.
- Add in remaining ingredients and puree until smooth.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
